TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa: Football to leverage education and inclusion for young people in disadvantaged communities

Proud to continue its support for initiatives that foster young people’s education and inclusion through Action!, the employee volunteer program, TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa set about promoting sport among young people in disadvantaged communities.

Amidst the hype surrounding the 2024 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the teams from TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa wanted to commit to supporting young people from two schools in Capetown: the Desmond Mpilo Tutu high school in Paarl (a Province of the Western Cape), and the Paterson Gqeberha high school (Province of the Eastern Cape).

So in May 2023, in partnership with the Gift of Givers association, the teams participated in preparing two Astroturf football pitches in the high school grounds, to encourage students to play.

On February 8 & 9, 2024, 18 volunteer employees from the affiliate organized and participated in a football tournament alongside the underprivileged children.

The tournament was also an opportunity for TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa to donate football equipment.

Through these various initiatives, the employees facilitated young people’s access to sports, and promoted the values inherent to such activities, while forging links with the local communities.
