Our Road Safety actions

Taking action on several fronts, and in partnership with all the stakeholders in road safety.

Road accidents kill 1.35 million people worldwide every year, and are the leading cause of death among young people aged 5 to 29. Road safety is therefore a major issue for the local populations, and all the more so for young people.

TotalEnergies is a major player on the roads and highways, with millions of road users refueling at its service stations every day and over 600 million kilometers driven every year by its corporate truck fleet to transport its products.

Safety is a core value that is embedded in all our processes, because it ensures our long-term sustainability as a business. That’s why our aim is to share our expertise with local populations - and young people in particular to reduce the number of road victims and thereby contribute to achieving the ambitious goal set by the United Nations to cut road traffic deaths and serious injuries by half by 2030.

Training and awareness raising for vulnerable populations

In addition to training our own teams, we firmly believe that a global and fundamental change in behavior, in particular among young people and vulnerable populations, stems from awareness-raising actions and training, to make everyone responsible for their own safety.

Working with NGOs across the world, and as closely as possible with the local populations, we raise young people’s awareness to road risks, to pave the way to safer mobility  for them.

Mobilization and increasing the competencies of local road safety players

We work with several different organizations to bring local actors together and increase their competencies. Young people are particularly involved in projects for safer mobility.

We firmly believe that exchange and co-construction are solid foundations for our actions and give young people the tools and competencies they need to successfully roll out their safer mobility actions at local level.

By creating local coalitions and promoting work through networks, we contribute to mobilizing the different stakeholders and bring them together to work on larger-scale, higher-impact projects.

Advocacy to international organizations and local and national authorities

A systemic and collective approach to road safety, on an individual, local, national and international level, is crucial to ensuring safer mobility.

We draw on our capacity to influence, our expertise, and our knowledge of road safety issues to set the wheels of this kind of approach in motion.

Through our participation and support for national and international organizations, we work with public institutions and non-governmental organizations, who carry weight when it comes to road safety, on several objectives including changes in regulations and letting young people have their say.
