"Earth in our hands to mold a new future", an artistic experience for a group of young people monitored by the French Youth Protection and Juvenile Justice in the Grand Est region

Partners of the Institut du Monde Arabe for over 20 years now, TotalEnergies Corporate Foundation is proud and happy to support the educational, social and cultural initiatives of the IMA, which aim to encourage imagination and self-confidence. All the more so with this initiative that combines creative arts and the social inclusion of young people monitored by the French Youth Protection and Juvenile Justice service in the Grand Est region (Aube / Haute-Marne).

For almost five months, fifteen adolescents aged between 14 and 20 years old were involved in the project, proactively participating every week in the long-term arts adventure.

During the different sessions with the ceramic artist Noémie Niddam Hosoi, the young people put their hearts and minds into the creation of ceramic items, currently on display at the Institut du Monde Arabe. Through their actions, ideas and emotions, they breathed life into the prospect of Earth in our hands to mold a new future.

All the participants made their own bowls and hand imprints in clay, as symbols of protection and sharing. More than discovering an artistic technique, the project gave the youngsters a place to express themselves, get to know themselves better and the opportunity to experience creative freedom.

Well done to all the young people who took part in this ambitious project; they can be congratulated for their commitment and diligence. Many thanks also to all the people who made the project possible: the teams from the Youth Protection and Juvenile Justice service in the Grand Est region (Aube / Haute-Marne), the Institut du Monde Arabe and the artist Noémie Niddam Hosoi.

“This personal journey through art is much more than just an educational initiative. It’s a true springboard, a unique opportunity for these young people to discover the wealth of culture, to connect with universal values and to express themselves in total freedom. Art as a vector of change should be a right for everyone without exception.”

Philippe Castro, Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the IMA.
