Preventing road accidents around entertainment events: raising awareness among 15,000 young people nationwide in France, with Avenir Santé

TotalEnergies Foundation is pleased to announce a brand-new partnership with the association Avenir Santé, to roll out the project entitled “Preventing road accidents around entertainment events.” This ambitious program, which covers seven French regions, targets 15,000 young people and regular party-goers aged 16 to 25 who frequent festivals, concerts and nightclubs, to reduce road accidents through a preventive, interactive approach.

Through this partnership, in 2025, the association will mobilize 110 young people to lead 30 road accident prevention actions. These will take place right in the very places where young people like to meet up, and in different environments, whether urban, rural or semi-rural.

A major issue

Every year, party venues are theaters for high-risk behaviors such as binge drinking, use of narcotics and the use of driving distractors.  To tackle these challenges, the project aims to raise awareness among young people across the board, whatever their profile and irrespective of their means of locomotion (light vehicles, two-wheelers, etc.) including new soft mobility methods (bicycles, electric bicycles, scooters, and so on).

Our partnership with Avenir Santé completes the initiatives already supported by TotalEnergies Foundation to make young people even more aware of the risks they run on the road. It underlines the commitment of our Foundation to young people and road safety, as we aim to reduce the number of victims and contribute to achieving the ambitious goal set by the United Nations to cut road traffic deaths and serious injuries by half by 2030.

A program structured around four key phases:

  1. Mobilization and training for young event leaders: In 2025, 110 young volunteers doing their civic service or association employees (responsible for prevention and leading events) will be trained in the field to lead prevention actions. This phase comprises three stages: a month’s initial training, continuous training before each action, and further training adapted to the needs of the young event leaders.
  2. Working with the organizers of entertainment events: A close partnership will be developed with festivals, student associations, clubs and other entertainment venues, to accompany them in their approach to preventing road accidents and implementing suitable prevention actions.
  3. Prevention actions at the heart of events: 30 actions will be organized in 2025, right at the heart of entertainment events organized for young people, by means of specific areas devoted to raising awareness (stand with informative tools such as blood alcohol content simulators, simulator glasses, games, etc.)
  4. Evaluation of actions: Regular analyses will be performed to measure the impact of the different initiatives and ensure their continuous improvement.

Actions that will benefit a large population in seven regions of France

The actions will be of immediate benefit to 15,000 young people from different socio-cultural backgrounds, as well as to organizers of entertainment events in seven regions of France: Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Thanks to the support of TotalEnergies Foundation, Avenir Santé will be able to raise awareness among 15,000 young people through all its geographical branches. The challenge is clearly defined: to prevent road accidents which are the main cause of death among young people. The partnership is a decisive move toward supporting young people as they will be the immediate beneficiaries of the project and also the key drivers of the initiative, as the actions will be led by specially-trained young event leaders.
