The partners share their experience: Institut Océanographique de Monaco
Carton: What can you tell us about your foundation?
Julien Guinhut, Director of Sponsorship and Partnerships Oceanographic Institute of Monaco: The Monaco Oceanographic Institute is a foundation recognized as being of public benefit (FRUP), which was created almost 120 years ago by Albert I, Prince of Monaco, who was a pioneering oceanographer in the field and was determined to pass on a mission. A mission that can be summarized as follows: to help people find out about, love and protect the ocean.
Carton: What’s your commitment to youth?
Julien Guinhut: Two of the main strengths of the Oceanographic Institute are its competencies in advocacy and mediation. Among our activities, some of our actions are devoted to the classes we welcome every year to support them with educational projects. It’s one of our priority actions and we devote a lot of time to it.
Carton : Votre projet avec la Fondation TotalEnergies ?
Julien Guinhut: TotalEnergies Corporate Foundation enables us to maintain the special system called “Océano Pour Tous” every year. It’s a competition that lasts for the entire academic year, whereby schools in mainland France and French overseas departments and territories can participate and present a project. The classes are priority groups who do not necessarily have access to the ocean because they live too far away, and also because marine biodiversity is a complex subject which is difficult for them to understand. The classes include those designed for students with special educational needs (REP, REP+, ULIS, SEGPA) and who will receive support for the entire year. Some of the classes may go on school outings and the class who wins the competition will come to Monaco. Every year our “Océano Pour Tous” competition reaches out to around 4,000 young people of different ages, whether in primary or middle school.
Carton: Can you sum up “Creating partnerships” in a few words?
Julien Guinhut: This partnership with TotalEnergies Corporate Foundation gives us an opportunity to harbor ambitions about this type of project, to allow this kind of initiative, this competition format, to be rolled out over several years, to exchange views and even create ambitions, and to obtain results and have an impact on what we want to do. Achieving these goals without partners like TotalEnergies Corporate Foundation would be very difficult, or even impossible. Thanks to this dialogue and support, we are able to continue running this kind of initiative.
